Weed Myths that make absolutely NO SENSE! Part 1

The internet is the single most important invention of the information/technology age. Through this massive stockpile of information, there is much misinformation being disseminated and consumed on a daily basis. Its often hard to discern real facts from “alternative facts” these days. Rest assured, we’ve done the digging and experiments so you don’t have to! Here are 3 myths about Cannabis, we’re just sick of hearing!

  1. Synthetic Weed is Safe

We’d go out on a limb and say most if not all synthetic things would never stack up properly against their natural counterparts. For some time, Spice and K2 were being marketed as a legal alternative to cannabis. A user could easily find this in a local smoke shop and purchase without a medical recommendation. Problem is, once users started to realize the side effects of the drug: hallucinations, stroke, vomiting, acute psychosis, and even death; the DEA banned the substance. This hasn’t stopped manufacturers from still making it and distributing to local smoke shops. Watch out!

  1. The D.A.R.E. Program actually helps kids stay away from Weed.

If you grew up in US, after 1982, then it’s highly likely you were apart of a local D.A.R.E. program at your school. The Drug Abuse Resistance Education program was implemented at the beginning of the popularized “War on Drugs” during the Reagan administration. Recent studies have shown that the program’s seemingly helpful intentions have done nothing to decrease the rate of youth substance abuse, perhaps even increased it. The main problem with the approach is “just say no”. D.A.R.E. lacks some of these key elements. It typically lasts only months rather than years. Moreover, it affords students few opportunities to practice how to refuse offers of drugs. Merely telling participants to “just say no” to drugs is unlikely to produce lasting effects because many may lack the needed interpersonal skills.

  1. You can’t overdose on Weed.

Ok, I know what you’re thinking: “What do you mean? Everyone knows weed won’t kill you!” While that is true, lets dive into what the word “overdose” actually means. An overdose simply means taking more than the normal or recommended dosage. With that being said, you can have a nonlethal overdose or a lethal dosage of pretty much any substance. With cannabis, you can most definitely ingest more than you intend to. It can be incredibly uncomfortable, but you will not die. This depends on the specific tolerance of the user, but know you can overdose, its just HIGHLY IMPOSSIBLE to ingest a LETHAL dosage of THC or CBD.

  1. So glad you said that last part about the overdose. A lot of people don’t know or just don’t believe.

    1. Absolutely. I think a lot of that stems from just the stigma of the word “overdose”. You hear enough people ODing on other drugs on the news, which almost always seems to end with death.. its hard for people to stray away from thinking an overdose is a final, lethal thing. Thankfully theres enough information readily available for people nowadays to educate and share with others. Thanks for supporting the truth!
